The Mendocino Unified School District is a small K-12 district located on the rural coast of northern California, approximately three and half hours north of San Francisco. The district covers 420 square miles and serves the communities from Caspar on the north to Elk in the south and inland to Comptche. The schools in our district include three of the dozen remaining one room schoolhouses in California as well as a K-8 campus in the town of Mendocino, three small and distinctive high school programs renowned for the quality of their programs, and a K-12 independent study program.
At Mendocino Unified, we have a variety of schooling options for our students. Starting in the earliest grades, students either attend one of our three small schools or the K-8 school. The three small schools are located in the communities of Albion, Comptche, and Elk and offer kindergarten through 3rd grade instruction. Mendocino K-8 School is located just to the east of the town of Mendocino and is currently being completely modernized. We also offer an independent study program for K-8 students.
At the high school level, we have Mendocino High School, a comprehensive high school located on top of a hill in Mendocino, Mendocino Community High School, an alternative high school next to the Mendocino Art Center, Sunrise Continuation High School, and Mendocino Alternative School, our independent study program.
The Mendocino Unified School District has a highly dedicated teaching staff, active and involved parents, a supportive community, and best of all, a wonderful group of students!
